Singhara, also known as Water Chestnut, is an aquatic plant that grows in ponds, lakes, and slow-flowing rivers. It produces a triangular or horn-shaped fruit with a hard outer shell and crisp, white, juicy flesh inside. The fruit is sweet and crunchy when eaten raw and becomes soft and nutty when boiled or roasted. It is a seasonal fruit, mainly available during autumn and winter in India. Singhara is gluten-free, low in calories, and rich in nutrients like potassium, iron, zinc, and fiber. It is commonly eaten fresh, boiled, or in flour form (Singhara atta), especially during fasting (vrat) periods.
