Papaya, also known as Carica papaya, is a tropical fruit-bearing plant widely grown for its sweet, orange-fleshed fruit. It belongs to the Caricaceae family. The papaya tree is small, soft-stemmed, and usually unbranched, growing up to 5–10 meters tall. Its leaves are large, deeply lobed, and grow in a spiral arrangement at the top of the trunk. The fruit is oval or pear-shaped, green when unripe and turns yellow-orange when ripe. The inner flesh is juicy and rich in flavor, containing black, round seeds in the center.
